When children are injured in accidents there are special rules that apply to the cases that are brought by their lawyers. The first is a special statute of limitations, or time limit for filing suit, that is longer than for adults in most cases. Children also have to have the protection of a guarding for the lawsuit, called the guardian ad litem, who is confirmed by the court, and is responsible for the legal action.
