Take your child to the doctor immediately. Take pictures of any visible injuries. Don't let anyone talk to your child about the accident, especially if the person is from an insurance company. Keep a journal of how the injuries are affecting your child. Consult an attorney as soon as possible to discuss your options. In serious cases a structured settlement with payments over a period of years may be a better option than a lump sum settlement.
